Pathcare Vermaak

In May 2000, Prof Hayward Vermaak and Prof Job Ubbink, two chemical pathologists at the University of Pretoria had an idea that Clinical Pathology, as it was then practiced, could be vastly improved upon. With the focus on turnaround time, service, personal relationships with clinicians, and a value-based customisable laboratory information system – Vermaak and Partners was established. With a solid academic background and continued emphasis on leading through innovation, the practice grew in reputation and size. In 2016 PathCare acquired shares in the practice. The 2019 amalgamation of the two laboratories saw alignment in their common purpose of laboratory medicine that adds value. The guiding principles of innovation and quality leading to value-based pathology continue to drive and inspire the pathologists at PathCare Vermaak. It is these principles that underpin the numerous projects PathCare Vermaak is involved in where the focus of laboratory medicine is moving from “sick care” to “well care”, where we aim to keep patients out of hospital through the use of predictive value-added testing, risk stratification of population groups and identifying care gaps. PathCare Vermaak continues to be a leader in the field of diagnostic pathology by facilitating and enhancing the diagnostic and management decisions that are made in the care of our patients
